2004 Vintage Report
As I write this (pre-Christmas), the dust has settled on a successful harvest.
The resulting wines are just beginning to show their mettle and without
exception, in quality, they match or exceed the best we have produced. Good
weather at bloom time and use of my vigor reduction/yield balancing system gave
us a bountiful crop, so quantities will not be limited. In the cellar, our new
crusher/destemmer (with modifications) improved our white wines especially. We,
as always, continued to experiment with yeast, cooperage, fermentation regimes
and cellar processes in order to maximize quality. In short, while 2004 was not
the "vintage of the century" it came close wnough to allow us to make
some fine wines.
