August 2009 There is a cat problem in the winery neighborhood. Six adorable kittens are available for adoption to a good home. I will try to collect them in the winery for Labor Day weekend. They are gray tabbies and one black one. We are going to try to catch the mother and get her spayed before this happens again. The kittens are very sweet.
TJ's daughter in the vineyard. Note that veraison is under way... Whole Foods sent Kate Medley, Multimedia Communications Specialist for a photo shoot and audio interview; pictures will be used on banners, and the audio will back a slide show on the corporate web site! Here's Kate with her camera and Ron... Got Traminette? Ripley has a big motorcycle scene, Snappers Saloon in downtown is a popular destination. This group loved the Traminette. We made this wine for people who prefer a sweeter wine! It's a steal at $8.95; other wineries in Cincinnati charge from $12 to $20 for their Traminnette. One of its parents is Gewurztraminer, so it is great as a summer sipper or with Asian food, or a dessert wine. Makes a great wine spritzer with club soda and a strawberry! From Chris Dillman, Sommelier, Rosendales, Columbus Ohio, quoted in CMX magazine.
You like some Ohio
vineyards. That may be surprising to some. We have started a little tradition. The last bottle of a vintage to leave the winery is autographed by Ron and gets a photo! Here's Matt, with the last bottle of 2006 red Revelation to leave the winery! Countdown to the release of the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2007 Cabernet Franc, September 5, 2009 at 10 a.m.

Here are the comments: "The
dinner went very well. The pairings were seamless. The Revelation had
just a touch of sweet fruit that worked really well with the Shrimp
entree. Of course the Viognier-Roussanne, was rocking with the Scallop.
The guests were very pleased with the quality level of the wines for the
entire evening. I also made a point of giving a glass of each to the
chefs as to get their input as well. They too were very pleased with the
pairings." We ran out of logo glasses! No problem for this group of regulars who used a Sharpie to write Kinkead Ridge on their plastic glasses!

Traminette -- Traminette is a hybrid of Gewurztraminer, and a friend of
Ron's said that she had a couple of tons available for sale. He picked
them up and, unfortunately, found that some of the grapes had already
begun to raisinate. He cobbled together an interesting, semi-sweet,
eminently drinkable wine from the ton and a half he was able to use.
Plenty of traditional gewürztraminer pepperiness to be found therein,
lots of floral notes, and a surprisingly fresh finish. For about $9, a
very nice sipping wine or a nice pairing for spicy Asian cuisine. From Andrew Hall, wine blogger from Columbus:
2008 Revelation White. Predominantly
Sauvignon Blanc, this was the clear winner in the 2008 white line-up.
Crisp mineral and herbal nose with nice persistence. Good lines and cut.
Nice intensity of the acidity and mineral. Nice integration which
carries its 14%abv well. A revisit showed an elegant side to this wine.
Very good, best white Revelation I’ve had. Wide open for business as
well. From Michelle, wine-girl.net
My absolute favorite of the Kinkead Ridge
wines is the Viognier-Roussanne. The 2008 is 14.8% AbV, which means that
I'll happily drink an entire bottle and then probably happily fall down.
I am usually fairly sensitive to high-alcohol wines, but this one isn't
hot at all. Ron may have contended with high alcohol, but he dealt with
it superbly.

Funny drinking quotes:
"Sometimes
when I reflect back on all the wine I drink
I feel shame. Then
I look into the glass and think
about the workers in the vineyards and all
of their hopes
and dreams If I didn't drink this wine, they
might be out
of work and their dreams would be shattered.
Then I say
to myself, "It is better that I drink
this wine and let their
dreams come true than be selfish and worry
about my liver." Click here for more funny drinking quotes.
